Definition
The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), is the consumer price index as it is calculated in the European Union (EU), according to a harmonised approach and a single set of definitions. It measures the change over time in the prices of consumer goods and services acquired, used or paid for by households. It is an important measure of inflation in the EU.
